We would like to welcome Encounters, our new neighbours in the building. From January to April 2011 Encounters will return the Gallery on the Dartington Estate to its original function as a ‘Shop’. In this case it will become a space for dialogue and exchange where an evolving collection of memories, stories, experiences, emotions, ideas and dreams about Dartington’s past, present and future will grow. The Shop will be open on Tuesday 11-5 and Wednesday 11-7. www.encounters-arts.org.uk

Live Performances with cafe and studio tours, Saturday 5th February
Cornelius Cardew's The Great Learning Paragraph 7
Is a classic experimental composition, based on Confusion texts. It is a unique experience for anyone prepared to use their voice. It consists of a gently moving cloud of sound, meditative in effect, immersive in quality. Sam Richards will rehearse the piece from 2pm with anyone who would like to take part, for a performance at 3pm.
Fulcanelli's Shoes
World premiere of the new piece from Ergo Phizmiz. This one-man performance is an account of the relationships between the artistic and alchemical worlds of the early 20th century in Paris, centreing around the semi-mythological character of Fulcanelli. Combining new music and songs with a documentary-narrative and stop-motion films, "Fulcanelli's Shoes" is a Dadaist trip into the heart of the cat. From 5pm. A double bill with:
The Mourning Show
Ergo Phizmiz. An opera about radio, magic and the death of Chris Evans. On his regular BBC Radio 2 morning show, in the middle of a big freeze, popular DJ Chris Evans is telephoned by three strange ladies. Over the course of the next 30 minutes they proceed to destroy his mind until, convinced he is a bird, Chris Evans exits through the window. From 6:30pm
Baconhead is Ebola and Autobee. They make sci-fi beats to confuse your brain. A true piece of future bass, digital funk and wonky goodness, taking influence from dubstep, skweee, glitchhop and even hinting at IDM at times, Baconhead's debut ep _Soap_ (released in May 2010) has been receiving a lot of support from Radio 1's Huw Stephens and XFM's Eddy Temple Morris. The Baconhead sound is hard to define, inspired by math-rock and b-movie soundtracks as much as hip hop and dubstep.
Whatever it is, it has caught the ear of a lot of folks, including Kid606, King Cannibal, Slugabed and Loops Haunt.
