The Void: The Musical

Create "The Void: The musical" with Ergo Phizmiz and Lottie Depresstival

Explore radiophonic techniques combined with experimental approaches to making radio drama for performance and broadcast as part of First Spark Festival.

Taking place on Saturdays, 2-4pm at Soundart Radio studios in live workshop settings, these sessions will constitute a flurry of ideas and activities, across words, music and noises, to explore the edges of this most versatile, democratic and cost effective storytelling medium - after all, it costs the same in a sonic environment to take the listener to Totnes as it does an aural trip to Jupiter.

About Ergo Phizmiz and Lottie Depresstival

Lottie & Ergo have worked together for eight years. Both prolific artists in their own right, the best part of the last decade has comprised a remarkable creative exchange and collaboration. They work together under the name Avanthardcollective, as production house for theatre, opera, movies and radio drama, both DIY productions and scenography for maj0r international opera houses.

As a radio artist Ergo has created work for stations internationally including Soundart, BBC Radio 3, BBC 6Music, Bayerischer Rundfunk, WDR, Concertzender, VPRO, Resonance FM and two years on legendary New Jersey freeform radio station WFMU. His radio work has received awards from the Deutsche Akademie der Darstellenden Kunst and Special Mention at the Prix Italia.

Ergo & Lottie's many collaborative radioplays for radio stations in Germany and the Netherlands have ranged from subjects like animals in space to wolves in opera houses and the adventures of Mr Punch in the 21st century.

Regarded internationally as maverick outsider artists, with magical work informed by the very un-magical society around them, Lottie & Ergo propose mass societal creative liberation for everybody and - given that radio, as a narrative medium, is doubtless the most flexible and vivid - these workshops will explore and play with time, history, spontaneity, in the creation of vivid aural images and soundscapes where we joyously tickle the intersection of word, sound and music.
